Beautiful Spring birthday cake!

Isabel is a vanilla girl, unlike her sister Maddie who is D E F I N I T E L Y  a chocolate girl.  Each April 4th there is a variation on a theme, vanilla cake theme that is.  This year's birthday cake was a vanilla bean and strawberry cake.   Each of the two vanilla layers was filled with a fresh strawberry compote, and the center was filled with a coconut-vanilla pastry cream.  OMG!  and yes, Swiss meringue butter cream all over.

This is a nine inch cake and stood about six inches tall....a really nice shape.  But I'm partial to the shorter ten inch cakes.  They are easier to cut and actually serve more guests (18-20). The little flowers are pansies made of fondant with sparkle dust.

In case you haven't noticed, I like girly cakes. No crazy cakes shaped like purses or shoes, or cars or elephants, or houses, or whatever anyone can imagine.  You get the picture.  However, I made some Lightening McQueen cupcakes once, and that's about as crazy I go.  At the time, I didn't even know what or who Lightening McQueen was, but the cupcakes were a success non the less.
